What Was the EchoLeak Exploit?

In June 2025, cybersecurity firm Aim Security disclosed a critical vulnerability in Microsoft 365 Copilot, the AI assistant built into Outlook, Word and Teams. Dubbed “EchoLeak” and tracked as CVE-2025-32711, the flaw meant a specially crafted email could trick the AI into leaking sensitive data, with no action needed from the user. (AI Tech Suite)

Microsoft fixed the flaw, but EchoLeak showed how AI assistants with broad access to company data can be turned against the organizations they serve.
